چکیده

The increasingly complex and dynamic nature of contemporary markets demands that a business engages in an ongoing dialogue with all aspects of its environment, including other businesses. Whilst the concept of a “business ecosystem” captures the essence of such an environment, the lack of both a convincing model and a proper architecture has resulted in software which only partially leverages the potential of the metaphor. In this paper, we present a conceptual architecture for an environment-mediated business ecosystem: Dynamic Agent-based Ecosystem Model (DAEM), a novel and promising approach to model business ecosystems, especially, those in which the environment plays an identifiable mediating role.

Ecosystem engineering strengthens bottom-up and weakens top-down effects via trait-mediated indirect interactions

Trophic interactions and ecosystem engineering are ubiquitous and powerful forces structuring ecosystems, yet how these processes interact to shape natural systems is poorly understood. Moreover, trophic effects can be driven by both density- and trait-mediated interactions. Microcosm studies demonstrate that trait-mediated interactions may be as strong as density-mediated interactions, but the...

Digital Business Ecosystems: Natural Science Paradigms

A primary motivation for research in Digital Ecosystems is the desire to exploit the self-organising properties of natural ecosystems. Ecosystems arc thought to be robust, scalable architectures that can automatically solve complex, dynamic problems. However, the biological processes that contribute to these properties have not been made explicit in Digital Ecosystem research. Here, we introduc...

Environments that Induce Synthetic Microbial Ecosystems

Interactions between microbial species are sometimes mediated by the exchange of small molecules, secreted by one species and metabolized by another. Both one-way (commensal) and two-way (mutualistic) interactions may contribute to complex networks of interdependencies. Understanding these interactions constitutes an open challenge in microbial ecology, with applications ranging from the human ...
